She once believed him a monster, but his secrets revealed a man tormented by guilt and a powerful curse—one that might keep them apart forever. Reunited with her family, who have taken refuge with enemies of Khalid, and Tariq, her childhood sweetheart, she should be happy. But Tariq now commands forces set on destroying Khalid's empire. Shahrzad is almost a prisoner caught between loyalties to people she loves. But she refuses to be a pawn and devises a plan.

While her father, Jahandar, continues to play with magical forces he doesn't yet understand, Shahrzad tries to uncover powers that may lie dormant within her. With the help of a tattered old carpet and a tempestuous but sage young man, Shahrzad will attempt to break the curse and reunite with her one true love.

(The Order of The Krigers #1)
Publisher: Month9Books

Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy

The people of Nelebek live in fear of persecution from the evil Morlet, who reigns with a dark and destructive magic. The kingdom’s only hope lies with the Order of the Krigers—twelve warriors with mysterious powers linked to magical weapons.

For over a century, Morlet has been annihilating the Order, picking them off one by one. Eleven Krigers have been hunted down, tortured, and imprisoned in his dungeon. Now, only one remains.

Sixteen-year-old Kaia survives by keeping her head down and minding her own business. But when she finds herself in the middle of a public execution where the mysterious Morlet is in attendance, an odd compulsion she can’t resist comes over her.

Kaia looks into Morlet’s eyes.

Soon, an ancient power awakens and Kaia can no more blend into the scenery. Will she heed the call of the Krigers or will Morlet’s dark magic destroy the last of the Order?

Hi Jennifer, I'm thrilled to have you here today at Addicted Readers! :)

Can you briefly tell us where the inspiration came for the ORDER OF THE KRIGERS series, and do you think the finished copy turned out to be what you planned on, or did it change from what you initially mapped out for it?

My previous series (The True Reign Series) takes place in a fantastical kingdom, but it doesn’t have any elements of fantasy beyond that. So with this Kriger series, I wanted to delve into a world that had magic. I did a brief outline and then started writing book 1. It did not turn out at all how I thought it would! My characters did things I wasn’t planning on and it took the book in a direction I never saw coming! Looking at it now, I’m so happy it did because it turned out better than I imagined it would.

What was the most challenging, and the most enjoyable aspect of writing RISE, and why?

The most challenging aspect of writing Rise was deciding how the magic of the world worked and making sure it was believable. Once I tackled that, I was able to focus on my characters. For me, I had the most fun writing the scenes between Anders and Kaia. The brothel scene is probably my all-time favorite scene.

What gave you the fascinating idea to connect the Krigers powers with their magical weapons, and can you tell us a little bit on how it all works?

I knew I wanted there to be magic in the world and I only wanted my 12 warriors (or Krigers) to access that magic. I decided they can only use their power when they have their weapon, and the weapon only works with the right Kriger. I’ll try to explain it without giving away too much. There are Heks (aka witches) in this world. My 12 Krigers were created to defeat the evil king and restore balance to the kingdom. In order to give them enough power to kill the king who wields evil Heks magic, the Krigers were bestowed with the ability to access a weapon and harness its power. The 12 Krigers need to band together, link their powers, and kill the king. But of course nothing goes quite as planned.

Can you tell us five random things about you?

--I’m insanely shy and hate speaking in public

--I met my husband when I was only 15 (a sophomore in high school)

--I have three kids who do karate, MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and weapons (bo staff)

--I used to teach high school English

--Every time I release a new book I panic that no one will like it

If you could describe RISE in 15 words or less, what would they be?

Rise boils down to these elements: fate, adventure, love, choice, consequences, cursed, good vs evil, and magic.

Who was your most favorite character in RISE, and why?

Morlet is my favorite character. In Rise, you learn some details about his past which give him a depth I never intended on. I love the duality of his character and the fact that nothing is as it seems with him. He fascinates me.

Jennifer, thank you so much for stopping by today. I've already read RISE and REALLY enjoyed it a lot! I can't wait to see where you take us next in this brilliant series!!! :)

Bad Things Always Come In Threes…

As a thief, I'm good at three things: hiding in the shadows, getting in and out unseen, and uncovering secrets. I put these skills to work for the Sinclair Family, one of the magical mobs that run the tourist town of Cloudburst Falls.

Everyone knows Victor Draconi wants to take over all the other Families--and kill every last Sinclair. What they don't know is that I'm on to him, and no way will I let the man who murdered my mom get away with hurting all the other people I care about. Especially when I've got places to break into, stuff to steal, and Devon Sinclair fighting right by my side…

"You are the worst thief I have ever seen." Felix Morales frowned, stopped walking, and dropped the large black duffel bag he was carrying on the ground. I winced at the clank-clank of the items inside the bag banging together.

"Why would you say that?" he asked.

"Oh, I don’t know," I sniped. "Maybe the fact that you are tromping through the woods like you are trying to kill every single blade of grass under your feet. Not to mention hacking through the bushes with your sword like we’re on a jungle safari. And then of course, there’s the talking. There is always the talking. It’s a wonder you don’t pass out from lack of oxygen."

His eyes narrowed. "And what is wrong with having a little light conversation while we hike through the woods?"

"Light conversation? You’ve been talking nonstop ever since we left the mansion."

I threw my hands up into the air. "So you actually have to stop talking and be quiet to be a thief! That’s why!"

Felix gave me a mulish look and started to cross his arms over his chest—until he realized that he was still holding on to his sword, the one he’d been swinging around like a machete for the past twenty minutes. He glared at me, but he finally slid the weapon into the scabbard belted to his waist. Well, that would cut down on some of the noise. Now, if I just had some duct tape for his mouth …

Felix stabbed his finger at the guy standing with us, who was busy setting his own black duffel bag onto the ground, although with far less noise than Felix had made. "And why aren’t you lecturing him about being quiet?"

"Because Devon can actually walk through the woods without cracking every single branch he steps on."

Felix snorted. "You’re just saying that because the two of you have been sneaking around the mansion sucking face for the last two weeks."

I tensed, still not used to having a relationship with a guy, much less talking about it with that guy’s best friend. But Devon Sinclair stepped up and slung his arm around my shoulder, pulling me close.

"And it’s been the best two weeks of my life," he said, grinning at me.
